CHOOSE YOUR CONSERVATION DESTINATION

THE TWO YEARS OF TRAVELING TO CONSERVATION AREAS, PROJECTS AND INITIATIVES HAVE BEEN THE TWO MOST AMAZING IN OUR LIVES.

First, there's the wildness of Chilean Patagonia, with its glorious sunsets and the blissful week spent in the Yendegaia National Park in Tierra del Fuego. Then there are all the beautiful, strange and captivating endemic species of flora and fauna we witnessed in Indonesia, New Zealand, Australia, Galapagos or Fiji. There are the dense forests of the Romanian Carpathian Mountains, populated by elusive brown bears, wolves, lynx, wild boars, deer and cheerful song birds. Everywhere we went there was reason to be filled with awe and gratitude. Nature conservation seems like a cause that many of us support and cheer from the sidelines, but traveling to conservation projects, new national parks, marine protected areas or community-based tourism initiatives can bring us closer to supporting the causes that move us.

VOLUNTEERING IN LATIN AMERICA

by Justin Lotak

Volunteering while traveling is an option that a growing number of travelers are choosing, but much of the information on organizations that offer volunteering can be difficult to find. Whether it's working with jaguars in Bolivia, practicing sustainable agriculture in Costa Rica, or teaching surfing in Peru, there is a volunteering opportunity for everyone. "Volunteering in Latin America" is a guidebook that contains essential information for anyone looking to spend time volunteering in Central or South America.
